Synopsis
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - An eye-opening, no-holds-barred memoir about life in the Church of Scientology by the outspoken actress and star of the A&E docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath Leah Remini has never been the type to hold her tongue. That willingness to speak her mind, stand her ground, and rattle the occasional cage has enabled this tough-talking girl from Brooklyn to forge an enduring and successful career in Hollywood. But being a troublemaker has come at a cost. That was never more evident than in 2013, when Remini loudly and publicly broke with the Church of Scientology. Now, in this frank, funny, poignant memoir, the former King of Queens star opens up about that experience for the first time, revealing the in-depth details of her painful split with the church and its controversial practices. Indoctrinated into the church as a child while living with her mother and sister in New York, Remini eventually moved to Los Angeles, where her dreams of becoming an actress and advancing Scientology's causes grew increasingly intertwined. As an adult, she found the success she'd worked so hard for, and with it a prominent place in the hierarchy of celebrity Scientologists alongside people such as Tom Cruise, Scientology's most high-profile adherent. Remini spent time directly with Cruise and was included among the guests at his 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes. But when she began to raise questions about some of the church's actions, she found herself a target. In the end, she was declared by the church to be a threat to their organization and therefore a "Suppressive Person," and as a result, all of her fellow parishioners--including members of her own family--were told to disconnect from her. Forever. Bold, brash, and bravely confessional, Troublemaker chronicles Leah Remini's remarkable journey toward emotional and spiritual freedom, both for herself and for her family. This is a memoir designed to reveal the hard-won truths of a life lived honestly--from an author unafraid of the consequences. Praise for Troublemaker "An aggressively honest memoir . . . Only one page was colored on, so "gently used" was a good way to describe this book. The quality is great. It was a really good price. It has no rips, torn pages, even the cover is like new, the appearance is better than described. The seller had good communication. Item arrived in a timely manner and was packaged well. I would buy from this seller again.

    The Truth About Tom Cruise

There are many books that have come out in the past few years about the brain dead cult of Scientology. Leah was not a star when her family joined so she got a close look what Scientology really is behind its posh exterior. Other celebrities have been carefully screened from the nasty underbelly of this nefarious group. But much of this has been covered in other books so the abuses are well documented. What this book says that is new and revealing are, in my opinion, twofold. First is the disappearance of Shelly Miscavige, wife of Scientology dictator David Miscavige. She was a friend of Leah's and has not been seen in public for the last six years. When Leah asked where Shelly was she was told that she, "didn't have a high enough rank to ask that question." The next thing of ...

Not as Much to this as I'd Thought

Leah gave a lot of her book away in interviews to promote it beforehand. The most interesting parts were in the beginning as she described her childhood experiences. I didn't pay much for the book (and I wouldn't) so if you haven't read her interviews, this is a good basic beginning for learning about Scientology.

  • Love oneself

So much in common with Miss Remini. Reading the book made me want to watch King of Queens reruns and/or buy the seasons. I purchased the book because she exited a cult, and I did also. It took much time to heal, and I value every hardship because through the healing process I learned how to love myself. I value every experience and the people with whom I used to associate. Thank goodness for therapists and non-judgmental people! I wish the best for Miss Remini along her journey of helping others who may be in a destructive misalignment with hypocritical but powerfully influential, politically motivated social climbers and their demi-God religious leaders.

  • Good reading, the book kept it interesting. Just wondered why she stayed in this financial cult for so long!
