Product Information

Doom has you assuming the role of a space marine out to save the galaxy. A portal has been opened that is spawning forth all sorts of hideous demons and alien creatures -- and they're not happy. The PlayStation version of Doom is more of a collection rather than a port of the PC game. It contains over 50 levels from the full versions of The Ultimate Doom (the original Doom plus some "master" levels) and Doom II. Purists can rest knowing that every secret, room and texture has remained intact from the PC versions, though there are some modifications.<br><br>Among the changes is an increased frame rate that now runs up to 30 frames a second. Additionally, the graphics have been given an overhaul thanks to the PlayStation's technology, and the sound now streams in 24-channel stereo quality. Ambient lighting effects have also been added, something developer John Romero had always wanted for Doom. As you progress through the various levels, you'll come across weapons, each one stronger than the last. At your disposal is the default military-issue pistol and your fists (complete with a spiky ring), a chainsaw, two shotguns (one double barreled), a chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, and the BFG 9000. You'll need a supply like this because you'll be fighting against demonic barons of hell, cyberdemons, cybernetic arachnids, and possessed marines.<br><br>The PlayStation's Link Cable is also supported so that you and a friend can hook up two consoles and participate in a deathmatch game or work together through the campaign.

    A good port of a classic.

    At the time this was one of the best console ports of Doom. Holds up well and still fun to play. It may lack some creatures and level designs of the original PC port. However it makes up for it with some custom levels and new monster placement. For collectors and fans its worth your time. If this is your first time into the Doom series then look up a more modern port of the game. DOOM BFG Edition with updated visuals/modern controls will be a better experience. I give a lot of credit to Sony for this custom port. For console gamers this was nicely done.

    Nothing but an awesome classic!!

    This game never gets old no matter how much time passes. Such a simple idea well executed successfully with so little story telling. The music is great, visuals are attractive, colors fit the tone of the game with just enough levels filled with hellish creatures, zombie mercenaries and undead skills to keep you entertained for weeks!!! Definitely a must have if you own a PS1.

    Doom - the Custom Playstation Edition. This is probably one of the best ports of Doom from this era of consoles. Not to mention it also includes Doom 2! Midway did a spectacular job porting these games to PlayStation, adding just enough new features in to keep the experience fresh for even folks already familiar with them.

    DOOM just never gets old

    Hey, It is DOOM after all. I loved the Nintendo 64 version and played it to death. Literally every time. My son wanted this version so we have sat for hours playing. Immersive game play, and graphics for it's time were so awesome. We ended up buying the sequel too. We own it on all platforms because it is such a great game and we never grow tired of it.

    A pleased doom fanatic

    A amazing looking copy of doom I am a big fan of doom from this one all the way to doom eternal but I need a physical copy of doom recently I bought the doom 64 Nintendo switch collector's edition. Anyways the game shipped asap and it was packaged very well which I'm happy about because ps1 games cases are fragile.
