Heat sinks and adhesive thermal pads work well. I have a larger and smaller sink attached to my Pi 3 and it has kept it around 20/30 degrees cooler. Not bad at all.

You'd think these would reduce chip temperatures considerably vs just the bare chip, but I think they may be more marginal than expected. Pretty sure this comment will apply to all products using similar technology i.e. very small aluminium heatsink with, supposedly, thermally conductive adhesive. I measured a bare TO-220 power resistor (22 Ohm, with 4.7 Volts dc across it, i.e. dissipating 1 Watt. Ambient was 26C, the TO-220 on its own was 69C, TO-220 with heatsink was 59C. Bearing in mind that QFP chips bristling with pins will get heatsinking into the PCB via their pins, I imagine the temperature difference of real chips might be even less than the 10C I measured with a bare TO-220. I should have measured the heatsink temp also to see how much of the temperature drop is across the adhesive and how much is the heatsink itself, but I didn't think of that at the time. From memory of how it felt, I'd say probaby two-thirds of the drop was due to the adhesive. 10C imrovement is definitely worth having but that was vs a very hot bare TO-220. In a typical Raspberry Pi application I would not be surprised if the advantage is only a few degrees C, hence my feeling it is quite marginal. These tiny heatsinks are great for lots of different applications apart from just raspberry pi. Personally I purchased these to install in a couple of RTL-SDR receivers and they did a great job of stabilising the tuners in them because they now stay on frequency. They are really easy to install because it's just a matter of peeling the paper off the underside and placing them on the chosen chip and applying a small amount of pressure to bond them. I definitely recommend these for use in any device as long as there is enough room to accommodate them.

As per title, these do bling up your pi but my system suggest that that's all they do... Idle temp of 55 degrees centigrade without. 66 degrees with. They did look good while installed though. They are no longer installed, needless to say.
