This lens has far surpassed my expectations in every way. It has performance very close to the newest ASPH version of this lens which costs over twice as much. Beautiful, creamy bokeh, sharp from corner to corner from f 2.0 on, able to capture available light, near focus capability and a short focus throw make this lens very useful for taking pictures. It has become my new standard lens and hardly leaves the camera. Others have mentioned that the weight is slightly more than the E43 version, but I have not noticed this out in the field. The black paint version that I have is drop dead gorgeous and the perfect compliment to my camera. It is by far the best lens I have ever handled. If you have the opportunity to purchase on of the E46 lenses, I highly suggest you buy it!!!
The 50mm Summilux M is probably the best lens I own. It is razor sharp and has a beautiful bokeh. It's also very smooth focusing, relatively small and lightweight. Flare and chromatic aberration are almost non-existent.

I have bought this lens a month ago, and I have taken around 1000 exposures with it. Just to mention, I have the chrome version of this lens and it weighs more than the black version by around 120 g. It is a pleasure to hold and feel! No lens has such perfection in built quality. The price is high. Of course Leica fans will say you get what you pay for. I agree, but Leica's insane prices not only because the cost of hand made products as the cost of manufacturing is high. But the logo, being special and always there're people will pay our limited production capacity. If Nikon make this lens, I don't think it will be more than 2000$. This lens produces the best image quality I have seen. And the creamy bokeh is the best. For me, the results of this lens is mind blowing. Best of the best.Read full review
Amazing image quality albeit a tiny bit less sharp than Summicron but oh that bokeh!!! Only gripe, focusing ring is stiffer to the Cron due to double ASPH elements.

I bought this lens for several reasons: Leica optical and build quality, small size, and 1.4 aperture. I use a Leica SL with the relatively new L lens mount. The beauty is the ability to adapt M lenses to this modern camera design with its EVF (electronic viewfinder). The SL lenses provide medium format quality on the SL but are a bit heavy and larger. For most of the time they are fine for me but when I want to carry the camera as a smaller package this 50/1.4 ASPH is great. The 1.4 allows low light images in town or at dusk. perfect for travel. I can carry the camera to dinner or the theatre or for an evening walk without the camera getting in the way and yet still have a full frame Leica experience and images with the quality of M lenses.
