Excellent Sci-Fi movie. Premise about humans being able to restart a dying sun is a bit of a stretch, but the characters, acting and action override that. It's very busy so you need to pay attention to the plot. The special effects and sets are top notch. Overall very entertaining and worth a second watch.

Aside from Pandorum this is one of the best recent sci fi movies. Basic story is that the sun is dying and earth is in a solar winter that threatens to make mankind extinct. This is the second and final mission to reignite the sun using a massive nuclear bomb. The first ship lost contact and its whereabouts are unknown. This bomb was made from the last of earth's resources and so this second ship is the final hope of earth and mankind. The acting is great and the movie is well done. This is not however an action movie, its more of a thriller. The second half of the movie does take a different tone but this does not ruin it. The only thing that will make or break this movie for you is it has a Happy/Sad ending like the third matrix did. That being said this movie is great and the ending is more enjoyable than said Matrix:Revolutions ending.Read full review
These movies just don't come around every day. You usually have to wait a while before you find a sci-fi film that you just really click with. Directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later & Transpotting) and written by Alex Garland, Sunshine makes a groundbreaking smash on the sci-fi film community Winning the 2007 British Independent Film Award's Best Technical Achievement award (Mark Tildesley for Production Design. Sunshine's tag-line for the movie is: "IF THE SUN DIES, SO DO WE." Cillian Murphy who plays Capa in the film was also nominated as Best Actor for this film. Capa narrates these lines at the beginning in order to save us the time of a long drawn out explanation so the movie actually starts where it should have. "Our sun is dying. Mankind faces extinction. Seven years ago the Icarus project sent a mission to restart the sun but that mission was lost before it reached the star. Sixteen months ago, I, Robert Capa, and a crew of seven left earth frozen in a solar winter. Our payload a stellar bomb with a mass equivalent to Manhattan Island. Our purpose to create a star within a star. [long pause] Capa: Eight astronauts strapped to the back of a bomb. My bomb. Welcome to the Icarus Two." Director Boyle proves his uncanny ability and insight into the human psyche as he pairs off interactions with crew member characters flying a solar bomb directly into the sun. I give this a 5/5 because it usually gets better the second or third time you see it since it seems very fast paced and thrilling. Overall, I thought this movie was very interesting. Again, I think casting could have been better. I also found it hard to believe that facing Earth's extinction because of the dying of the Sun would have been enough of a reason for these astronauts to band together and act a little more responsible. They bickerd at each other like a bunch of six year olds. Surely they had some kind of training? Who would pick this group for a six month (or was it a year) voyage to save the planet? Seriously? And, I didn't get the whole thing with the 'glowing/melted' crewman from the other spaceship. Was he suppose to be dead, or changed by the sun, or what? No explanation from the writers, which was pretty poor. And, the ending could have been happier. But, then again, not all endings are. All in all, a good movie though.Read full review
My second copy is in the mail as I write this. I’m meticulous about handling media so it’s puzzling how the disc failed. At any rate in the sci fi genre, this rates way up there with my other go-to movies.
