If I read the description thoroughly I would have known that it is an AC/DC adaptor with a barrel connector at the end with a separate barrel to 4 pin adapter (polarity was correct for Syno). It works so far, not sure if the adaptor is rated for the current spikes that my synology sometimes will need to draw.
