About this product

Product Information

Two-time Newbery medalist Lois Lowry has crafted a beautiful picture book about the power of longing and the importance of reconnection between a girl and her father in post-WWII America. This is the story of young Liz, her father, and their strained relationship. Dad has been away at WWII for longer than she can remember, and they begin their journey of reconnection through a hunting shirt, cherry pie, tender conversation, and the crow call. This allegorical story shows how, like the birds gathering above, the relationship between the girl and her father is graced with the chance to fly.

"Maragi2 Collectibles" had such a listing of desirable cachets that I know I will be delving into the inventory again. The description was left to the seller but the scan(s) of the item(s) made for easy & informed decision(s). The shipping costs were minimal & the shipping time was in the fact that it took no time at all between the seller sending out what I ordered & I myself received it. In communication, this seller sent a note of thanks. A definite 5 star seller.

  • A timeless tale, brilliantly executed!

An exceptional children's book encompassing all the elements of greatness: a timeless story, insightful writing, and brilliant artwork. Lois Lowry has brought her Newbery-winning talent to this story of a little girl re-connecting with her father upon his return from the War. Though semi-autobiographical and referencing World War II, the contemporary relevance of this storyline is unmistakable. I was struck by Ms. Lowry's ability to say so much, and to make it so real, in such a simple tale. The artwork by Bagram Ibatoulline is, in my opinion, Caldecott-worthy. His ability to render facial expression and haunting landscapes literally took my breath away.

  • Beautiful story, beautiful illustrations

Love this book and so happy that it was available.
