About this product

Product Information

'If you're looking for help, this is such a brilliant place to start because it's so relatable.' - Lorraine Kelly *** 'Though we have come a long way this crippling, debilitating, often terminal illness is still shockingly misunderstood. This is my story that you have asked me to tell. Those who suffer from depression will understand and those who don't will hopefully learn how to.' This is the book that Denise Welch wished for as she found herself exhausted and defeated after yet another visit from The Unwelcome Visitor - the name she gives to the episodes of clinical depression she has suffered from over the past 30 years. For so many, understanding their mental health is a leap into the unknown, and they are left grappling with the physical and emotional fallout without any guidance or someone to tell them 'you're not alone and you can live a happy and successful life alongside your illness'. Within these pages Denise reveals her ongoing journey from breakdowns to breakthroughs and through self-destruction to self-acceptance. Typically candid, Denise brings her trademark humour and honesty to a conversation that we urgently need to have, and shows readers it is brave and courageous to be open and vulnerable, and you too can take back control.

    Perfect Title!!

Denise is amazing! I have always admired her - big fan. Her book is well-written, very easy and compelling read! Everyone should be aware of this excellent information to help them understand Clinical Depression, and enable them to support sufferers - of which there are many! - Covers all clinical depression including P.M.S. and Post Natal; and also clinical depression in men. Ordered 2 more so our 3 daughters can have 1 each. Hopefully their husbands will read it - so they will know women sufferers cannot "pull yourself together"! And how they can support. She tells how It is incurable, and often unpredictable - arriving in seconds; but advises on how to help manage it, although episodes have to ride their course out. I cannot recommend this book enough.

This book is a very good read and also very relating to anyone that has suffered depression, It also helped me understand how to express depression to others. Seeing what Denise has faced in life and how she’s overcome them set backs is amazing. Definitely worth a read for anyone it’s also good to help others understand mental health too. A book has to grip me instantly for me to read it and this one I couldn’t put down. You won’t be disappointed.

  • Comforting read

Well done to Denise for writing this book. I took it away with me when we went in a short break and had finished reading it after a couple if days. As I find myself someone who slips in and out of depression I could relate to a lot of it and I found it a comfort to read. Thank you Denise
