Well, this system brings back great memories for those that grew up with it. It's also a must play for those that have never experienced or played the games for this system before. Definitely has great value for those who don't won't to pay much for a classic vintage system. In other words, the value reflects its lower end specs, with the exception of the faster processor it has. A Important part of gaming history thats easy to collect for!
I bought this as a Christmas present for a friend. i was poor as a kid so i started with the Atari 2600 and worked my way up from there. my friends first game system was a dream cast, he missed out on the world of 16-bit 2d gaming. i think this system is a great place to start with the system and its games being fun and fairly cheep still. I love my genesis and few will agree but i think the 32x is pretty awesome to, just did not have many good games. (I 3 Tempo for the 32X) also the model 1 genesis looks great on the outside, the Yamaha sound chip when properly used sounds awesome on the inside, and replacing your capacitors/ owning a 32x fixes the rainbow banding problem. Ontop off all this its a really reliable system that is low maintenance, I play mine more than i play my ps3. A ... A Classic Yesteryear, and a Classic Today (Sega Genesis Review)
I'm actually a kid reviewing this, so you kind of have to look at this from a kid's point of view. Specifically, an eleven year-old. Anyhow, the Sega Genesis (Known as the Sega Mega Drive overseas) is a video game console that was released in 1989 in the North American market. It was created to compete against the Super Nintendo, but it also competed against other systems of it's time, such as the Atari XE, and, I guess, also the Game Boy if you want to include that. Now, what exactly makes the Genesis still fun today? Is it the massive library of games? How about the many different personalities (I'll never forget the manly humor in Earthworm Jim or the stubbornness of Sonic the Hedgehog.) ALL of the above and more! This system gave you lots of bang for your buck, because it was ... I'm actually a kid reviewing this, so you kind of have to look at this from a kid's point of view. There's the Normal version, and then there's the High Definition Graphics model. The HD model was actually something that the Super Nintendo didn't have. Also, the doubts among the fans and Sega's campaign came down to one simple fact: The Genesis was 16-bit, and the better selling NES was only 8. But what are bits? Each bit does something special: 1. It improves the graphics. 2. It adds more memory. 3. It enables certain other things, such as save states. The extra 8 bits alone in the system caused Nintendo's share of the market to drop like a damn rock. Let me explain a bit. Originally, Nintendo's share of the market was 90%. But when the Genesis (Armed with it's ever lovable Sonic the Hedgehog) fell into place, Nintendo's share of the market fell to just 35%, a drop of 55%. Eventually Nintendo realized that they finally had an archenemy in town and fired back at Sega with the Super Nintendo, but that's another story altogether. So, is it worth buying? Most definitely. In fact, I don't know an old-school gamer who doesn't have a Sega Genesis, let alone a Super Nintendo as well. So, if you see it complete with everything and in the box, and it's under $350, do yourself a favor and pick it up! It will make your gaming life a whole lot more interesting. The End

This console runs 60hz out of the box and does full colour at 60hz through composite as opposed to Pal modified machines that will only do this through RGB. You would be thinking why is composite important ? Well many Megadrive games were designed with dithering which is a technique that blends together mesh like pixels to allow for more colours on screen and dithered transparencies which are impossible under RGB. For more information do a google search on dithered transparencies there should be a website called Retro-Sanctuary So I would like to play the Megadrive games as intended so this is a fantastic buy for that.This console runs 60hz out of the box and does full colour at 60hz through composite as opposed to Pal modified machines that will only do this through RGB.
