Sunstar 1:24 Routemaster bus model
The iconic London Routemaster bus was a familiar sight on London streets from 1956. The red half cab double decker is the definitive London Bus, reaching the pinnacle of success with the Routemaster. In operational daily service until 2005 (some still operate on the Heritage Routes at the time of writing) it clocked up 49 years of service - not bad for a bus that supposedly was only to last for 17 years. The Sun Star model is a diecast metal body on a plastic underframe, the detail is very good, with around 250 parts it is a work of art just to look at. Sun Star have obviously done a great deal of research in producing this range of models. Also they have catered for slight production changes in the buses over the years which means they have made around 4 different moulds for the bus ... They have not just 'bodged' the model with a one casting body where the details might otherwise be wrong - such as radiator cowling, on the early routemaster it has the destination blind route number in the right side of the body which other models don't have. It is this type of detail that sets these apart. They are beautiful to look at and an impressive size. Initially produced around 2004 time, they have now started introducing some new models and the price has doubled due to rising labour costs no doubt. This tends to make new ones very much a collector's market item, but they are amazing. One wonders why they have not made an RML model as they have most of the mould detail already drawn up? If you ever travelled on one, you must have one on display.
