  • Love this movie!!!

I love this movie! Sometimes this day and age something like this is like much needed therapy for a fast moving world. The main reason i sought out this show was i have fond memories as a pre-teen and veiwing this movie with my mother. To this very day we still joke around and say, "hit the break Mary Call...yeah, Mary Call hit the brake" then we just crack up laughing. Those were very different times in our lives and something we can recall and still bond over to this day. This movie is a diamond in the rough!!! Good family fun, with touching characters. Cant really recomend this enough. Get it. You wont be sorry!!!!

  • Do what you need to survive despite hard times.

This is one of my favorite movies. It potrays struggles in Appalachia. I recommend this movie to those who have struggles and also to those who have overcome hardships. There is humor in this movie and it is just enough to balance the sadness. For thos who live in the Appalachian Mountains they can identify with the characters and the circumstances. The scenery is also beautiful. I would recommend this as a family friendly movie. The casting is well done . My favorite sene is where the kids do the onion poultice for an ailing man.

  • Entertaining Family Movie

Great family movie. It is a very entertaining movie. The movie was filmed in a part of North carolian where my husband's grandmother grew up. They lived in the mountains. We have a summer home in the area and are very familar with it. When we saw this movie we loved it. The storyline is very true to stories I have heard about life in the mountains. My sister-in-law borrowed it from the library and we watched it. I had to have a copy for senitmenal value and it is a fun movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who would enjoy watching a family friendly movie.

  • Excellent, heartwarming movie!

We had purchased this movie as a Christmas gift and I wanted to just skip through it to make sure that it worked. Well, long story short, I watched the entire movie. This is a wonderful film that the whole family can, and should, watch together. The struggle that Mary Call endures to honor her father and the family name is inspring, and sometimes heartbreaking to watch. I highly recommend this film.

  • Worth your while...

This is a charming movie about a poor father who, on his deathbed, makes his children promise to stay together and never accept charity. After his death the children not only struggle to put food on the table, but to keep his death a secret so that they won't be sent to foster homes. It takes place in the backwoods of the Smoky Mountains. The soundtrack is as beautiful as the scenery. The story is warm, humorous, and touching. Good, wholesome entertainment.
