  • The movies beat the book of Les Miserables, story is powerful, book is boring and rambling

Text is surprisingly small for a big unwieldy hardback. I am covering the hardback edition. 2012 copyright by fall river press. The translation is Isabel Hapgood although she is not credited. This is the most popular translation which is in the public domain. The book is hard to get into. When people say "I will wait for the movie" is really is the reverse for most people. After seeing either the stageplay or one of the many movies (1978 tv version with richard jordan and anthony perkins is underrated). I like many others did not really "get" the whole story, so out of curiousity look up the book. The book rambles endlessly and basically puts me to sleep. I also don't like many of the socio-political commentaries about socialism. The book is powerful in some ways but boring ...

  • Les Miserables A Giant Novel set in the turmoil of the French Revolution!

Hugo never cut corners writing the Classic tale of the French People. It touches on the average peasant to the French Royals who were so disconnected with the people, that all laws disregarded reality. It is a book you will remember forever. Reviewer’s opinion. This book requires commitment. There is no easy way through this book. However, what ever you put into this book will be rewarded for ever!
