Art and nature inspired creations
this is not your average crochet book. the author describes herself as a former "knit snob" who admits a new-found love and respect for crochet. she creates out-of-the-box designs that you'll either love or hate. if you can't deal with things that are not perfectly symmetrical or conform to the norm, you probably won't like this book. however, if you like a challenge and things that are a little bit different, this is the book for you...there are all skill levels addressed here, so you don't have to be an advanced crocheter to create items that look like you are. the patterns are grouped into five chapters, each one concentrating on a type of crochet. chapter 1 is the basic stitches..(single, half-double etc...) chapter 2 deals in net, mesh and filet chapter 3 lacy and a pineapple ... this is not your average crochet book. the author describes herself as a former "knit snob" who admits a new-found love and respect for crochet. she creates out-of-the-box designs that you'll either love or hate. if you can't deal with things that are not perfectly symmetrical or conform to the norm, you probably won't like this book. however, if you like a challenge and things that are a little bit different, this is the book for you...there are all skill levels addressed here, so you don't have to be an advanced crocheter to create items that look like you are. the patterns are grouped into five chapters, each one concentrating on a type of crochet. chapter 1 is the basic stitches..(single, half-double etc...) chapter 2 deals in net, mesh and filet chapter 3 lacy and a pineapple hammock, no less! chapter 4 spikes, clusters, bobbles and puffs chapter 5 semi-irish, freeform-ish and granny style all-in-all there are about 25 designs, most of which are easy and intermediate (only 3 are advanced) but all are very unique. beside the hammock, there are blouses, shawls, wraps, skirts, childs bolero, openwork socks (not quite fishnet, but similar) coat, toy, purse, jacket, gloves, belt, unisex tunic, and more, all modeled by some dancers and some regular people with regular bodies. i really enjoyed just looking through the book for inspiration, but also will try a making a few of the designs. there is a resource section at the back of the book in case the yarns are hard to find, and there are schematics and international symbols in addition to the written instructions. this would be a great addition to your library if you like a modern twist to your crochet.

Beautiful book!
I bought this book even though I don't crochet. I am an avid knitter. The patterns in this book are so unique and beautiful, though, I think I am going to have to learn to crochet now. The photographs in the book are very beautiful. The book also has various photos of the same pattern so you can see how it would look from the front and back.
