After years of using many different fiberglass antennas I thought how about one of these silver rods. I used to use one of these in the 80's so I knew that they are good. The antenna had quite a lot of swarf on the inside of the sections and the supplied jubilee clips were of bad quality so I used my own. Even though the jubilee clips were super tight the sections were moving about still so I wrapped section join with good quality 3m insulation tape. Once up the antenna swr was 1.2 on UK block and 1.1 on the 555 block and that was using the supplied marks on each section. I have the antenna at 25feet off the ground and guy roped. There are no buildings near it to mess up the swr. I'm seeing a genuine 2-3 s-point improvement with this antenna over an antron A99 but this is a 5/8 wave. I also use this on the amateur bands and it tunes and works well down to 20 meters using the internal a.t.u in the yaesu ft460d. I recommend this antenna as it's quite stealthy and it works well.Read full review

The design is good but the materials used are far too lightweight. My antenna bent like a banana in a 60Kmh wind, and as a result ,I rebuilt the antenna with a higher grade alloy tubing to the same design. The antenna Base is strong enough and it was very easy to make it of a stronger design. In summery, the antenna is a good 5/8 design and tunes very well, but if you live in an area where wind is above, say, 30Kmh, keep it low. Have put 750 watts through the antenna and results were good.

Antenna OK for the money. Needs sealing at the clamp joins. Custom made clamps would look neater than the supplied standard ,washing machine, hose clamps. Plastic fitting cracked at one hole when tightening up one of the radials. Pretty thin gauge aluminum tube not sure how it's going to stand up in a high/strong wind situation or larger size birds landing on it. Assembly easy works well at initial test. OK/good .

Silver Rods have been around for years. A well made antenna, high gain which pulls in the weak signals and great performance. Easy assembly just ensure that you waterproof the joints for the sections off the antenna. As I have said before this antenna has been around for donkeys years so a trusted design..

They just keep working and holding the S.W.R. the one I have at the moment has been working now for about 18 yrs and it is still as good as the first transmission. I sealed all of the joints with self amalgamating tape.
