Product Information
With the fall of the Communist Regime and the freeing of travel restrictions to Russia, there has been an exceptional growth in interest in Russian silver and consequently a rise in prices. Prior to 1700, the marking of silver in Russia was haphazard. Every large Monastery would have a silver workshop. All other silversmiths, outside the enclaves of the monasteries would have worked under the supervision of two trustees who would ensure the quality of the silver. In 1700, Peter the Great passed an order on defining the standard of silver content and that all major towns in Russia and its provinces should have an Assay Office. This book lists the marks and inscriptions of the factories that those marks belonged too.Product Identifiers
