Great little old-fashioned comedy in a serious setting. Loved the wartime setting in America during the war. The story of Rosie the Riveter was a nice side story. Clothing a bit over the top for the average woman though. Too fancy for the story itself, but beautiful to see anyway.

I love this great old movie with Goldie Hawn in it that also stars Walter Matthau and Ingred Bergman. Take a trip back to the 60's in this great comedy.

Back in the 1960s, I'd have given this film 5 stars, no question. It's funny! Ultimately, as in any good rom-com, the "right" couples wind up together. But today's audiences may be turned off by the opening scene of 21-year-old Toni (Goldie Hawn) nearly succeeding in committing suicide. It's grim, in questionable taste, and doesn't fit the tone of the rest of the movie. I also found it hard to believe that Toni could fall in love with Walter Matthau. Yes, many women have relationships with men twenty years older, but the men are attractive, fun, or at least rich! Matthau's grumpy Julian seemed to have nothing to offer Toni. This movie inspired the film JUST GO WITH IT, which is told from the man's point of view rather than the girl's, and wisely eliminates the suicide scene.

The actors performances are at their best, with a story line that is humorous and engaging. The reason I didn’t give full stars is the premise is from a different era; not everyone is going to relate to giving furs as gifts, for example.
