If you think you prefer more examples and less theory, this is a decent book in Abstract Algebra. Yes. Abstract Algebra is higher level mathematics concerning with written proof for common-sense theories. I bought international edition because the price is about 500% cheaper than us edition. All the texts are the same. the only difference is that international edition comes up with softcover and the red words saying International Edition. Not for sales in the U.S. Well I am a middle class international student buying from the outside of the United States. So I hope I am not breaking any laws or sabotaging the economy. Hope it is helpful.
i had my doubts about the international edition, but not any more! this book came in the mail today - very pleased with it. i compared it with the hardcover US version at the local campus bookstore. everything matches exactly page for page. the soft cover is the only difference. on the insides of the hardcover, there are a few tables of theorems/properties that don't appear anywhere on the soft cover international version, but it really isn't part of the text.
This book is great! The class is great! Dr. Gallian knows what he is talking about! And yes, the content of this international edition is exactly the same as the one all of your peers will have. You'll just be paying less.
Bought the book for a class. The examples listed aren't very good with helping you understand the material. I found myself having to look up different websites and videos online to watch to help me understand. That being said it is an abstract algebra book, and probably can't be understood just by reading it.
I like that it was an international version so it was less than half price. The book has many examples with reading to go along with it. Lots of problems with the odd solutions in the back. Overall a good book for abstract algebra.
