The original is a plastic ring with a rubber 'rope' - This can be removed by carefully praying the black cap holding it with a large, flat screwdriver. Just keep the cap with the internal part facing up, or that will fall out once you've removed the retaining ring.
This part is all rubber and I would suggest cleaning the cap and applying some grease or the new ring won't rotate around the cap, which shall soon result in the 'rope' twisting and breaking again.
The quality seems very good.
