About this product

Product Information

The sixth title in the bestselling Collins Guide series, this book covers the fungi of the British Isles, with considerable relevance for Europe and the wider temperate world. Leading mycological artists have been specially commissioned to ensure accurate, detailed illustrations. Where possible, species are described and illustrated on the same page, with up-to-date authoritative text aiding identification. Nearly 2,400 species are illustrated in full colour, with detailed notes on how to correctly identify them, including details of similar, confusing species. Illustrations of young and mature fruiting bodies are included where necessary, and key features are highlighted for quick and easy reference. Written by one of Europe's leading mycologists and horticultural scientists, Stefan Buczacki, and illustrated by two of the world's leading natural history illustrators, Chris Shields and Denys Ovenden, this is the ultimate field guide for mushroom and toadstool lovers.

Great item, exactly as described. The packaging was very poor but item arrived undamaged. Communications and dispatch time were also poor but overall a successful transaction.

Pros - polite communication, low prices, generous discount offered for damaged book. Cons - very slow communication which tends to be generic and promises much but delivers little, heavy book was sent in a jiffy bag and arrived damaged, had to get Ebay involved to action the promised partial refund. Summary - 'pile it high and sell it cheap' organisation which is unable to provide efficient customer service and makes the mistake of not packaging books correctly. Will not buy from them again.

Happy with item , communication with seller and price . some feedback for buyers and seller ,item came in a thin single layer bubble wrap envelope when it is a heavy ,easily damageable item , lucky it was intact and undamaged , and second item came faster than date once purchased but was listed at 3-5 days which wasn't exactly accurate

    Collins Fungi guide

One of the most complete and accurate guides to British fungi. Very useful reference. (Always use books from reputable publishers to identify fungi, preferably check 2 or more books if intending to eat fungi)

  • The most complete guide to British fungi you can get.

I bought this guide because I take photos of fungi during autumn and it is notoriously difficult to identify them. Other fungi books are limited in species so I could never be sure of a correct identification. The Collins Guide is over 600 pages and has about 2600 British fungi species each with a colour painting showing the species' with their most identifiable traits. Unlike a photo which shows a single instance of a species this method shows the generic look which makes identification much easier. A book with, say, 150 species will simply not be useful for in-field identification. We need a full guide as there are many similar species. For someone wishing to pick fungi to eat this guide would be an essential book to own as there are many lookalikes to the edible fungi species, ...
