While the book is certainly worth having for the photographs I was very disappointed in that the material by Stephen King was simply his feelings about gargoyles with absolutely zero factual detail. Someone else must surely could have been chosen as the writer. I know King was selected due to his name and sales potential but it took away from any meaning when he writes about hiring a limo to drive down a street in New York to view the gargoyles from his car. So what? Does that impress me? The photos are very nice but also lack any substantive detail or description. All in all this is a good coffee table book but a worthless book for people wanting a serious book on the topic.
I now own two copies of Nightmares in the Sky: Gargoyles and Grotesques. It's a stunning book of photographs by f. stop Fitzgerald. As an added bonus, the one and only Stephen King has written the accompanying text for the book. If you're even the slightest fan of any of King's work, his involvement with this project serves reason enough for you to check the book out. If you are a fan of, or looking for a gift for someone who is particular to gargoyles, gothic architecture, photography, horror, or the darker shades of the spectrum this book is a must have. The majority of photos in the book are black and white, but there is a small selection of color photos too. I feel that page after page you will stare into the eyes of these gargoyles and feel different emotions piece to piece. This is a great book.Read full review
