1977 fand in Münster die Ausstellung skulptur77 statt, bei der als ergänzender Teil auch neun ortsbezogene größere Arbeiten als zeitgenössische Positionen im urbanen Umfeld gezeigt wurden. Der Gedanke wurde 1987 wieder aufgenommen und damit die weltweit beachtete Ausstellungsreihe Skulptur Projekte in Münster begründet. Anlässlich der Skulptur Projekte 2017 schreiben Burkhard Spinnen und Eva Pieper-Rapp-Frick mit "Geprägt" eine Geschichte der nunmehr 40-jährigen Ausstellungsreihe in kurzen Exempeln. Mit Interviews, Protokollen und Recherchen markieren sie geistige Landmarken. So entsteht leicht und ernst zugleich ein Bild vom Beginnen, von der Entwicklung, der Veränderung und der Bedeutung dieser Ausstellungsreihe. Der Leser wird dabei mitgenommen in die Welt eines Kunstprojektes, das - zunächst unbemerkt, aber aus heutiger Sicht vehement - eine Stadt und ihre Menschen verändert und damit ein Beispiel dafür gegeben hat, was Kunst in der Gesellschaft bewirken kann.
