Eingebettet in eine burleske, gelegentlich grotesk komische Geschichte um eine Gruppe von Menschen, die, kurz vor dem finanziellen Ruin stehend, im fiktiven Kurort Roulettenburg auf den Geldsegen einer umfangreichen, alle erl senden Erbschaft wartet, finden sich pr zise und detaillierte Beschreibungen der Spielsucht, die Dostojewski aus eigener Erfahrung kannte. Der Spieler erschien 1866 kurz nach Schuld und S hne; Dostojewski diktierte ihn seiner Stenotypistin und sp teren Ehefrau Anna in nur 26 Tagen. Dostojewski hatte Spielschulden, und sein Verleger Stellowski forderte die Fertigstellung bis zum 1. November, unter Androhung einer heftigen Konventionalstrafe. Die Lieferfrist wurde - obwohl Stellowski St. Petersburg zum 31. Oktober verlie , gerade um die Ablieferung unm glich zu machen - eingehalten, da die Stenotypistin Anna auf den Einfall kam, das Manuskript bei einem Notar zu hinterlegen. Pros - polite communication, low prices, generous discount offered for damaged book.
Cons - very slow communication which tends to be generic and promises much but delivers little, heavy book was sent in a jiffy bag and arrived damaged, had to get Ebay involved to action the promised partial refund.
Summary - 'pile it high and sell it cheap' organisation which is unable to provide efficient customer service and makes the mistake of not packaging books correctly. Will not buy from them again.
