About this product

Product Information

Based on the 1996 blockbuster film that launched Will Smith's acting career into orbit, Independence Day envelops you in an interstellar war against resource hungry alien forces. Taking control of a hotshot fighter pilot and his wingman, Steve Hiller, your objective is to destroy a barrage of alien defense fighters while targeting massive battleships capable of obliterating entire cites. Needless to say, this won't be a stroll in the park.

As a flight combat simulation, Independence Day features a wide variety of mission objectives and exotic locations. Because the alien forces have flocked to the Grand Canyon, you'll have to destroy four generators that supply power to the City Destroyer and incapacitate the massive spaceship. The New York mission will have you abolishing satellite linkups used by the aliens as a means of communication. Of course, you'll have to eliminate the primary spaceship in that area.

At certain times, funnel-like warpgates appear near or around the City Destroyer. By maneuvering your plane into the gate, you're treated to one of three bonus levels: Cape Canaveral, the Nakhoda Sub Base, or the Antarctic. Your mission is to destroy a shield generator within a certain time period; if you're tardy, another warpgate will appear and your mission will be over.

Located throughout each level are pickup items that supply you with bonus aircraft and weapons. Bonus planes act as extra lives; if you're shot down in the line of duty, you're given a second chance with another aircraft. Your default fighter plane is an F/A 18 Hornet with devastating AIM-120 Amraam missiles. Other weapons include rearm missiles, ray guns that emit from your aircraft for a limited period of time, "Tumblers" that send the opposition spiraling, and the stalling EPM missiles. There are also health pickups and time extensions at your disposal.

Independence Day also features multi-player options including the Head to Head and Link Cable modes. The Head to Head mode is a split-screen deathmatch with a set kill limit; whoever reaches that limit first claims victory. For those with the right cords and two consoles, the Link Cable mode is exactly like Head to Head only the action is carried out on two television sets.

Think you've got what it takes to destroy an army of alien forces and save the world? Strap on your seatbelt and get ready for the fireworks in Independence Day!

Everything about this sale went so perfect. The packaging was secure. And extremely protected. The ps3 came in almost brand new condition with only 13 days of playtime which doesnt even seem like that should exist considering how old these are. The seller was very good at communicating and did an amazing job at refurbishing this unit. Super super happy.

Great seller. Effective communication and quick shipping. Package is well protected! My mail lady always just throws it over, so I get worried. But I seen how carefully packaged it was and I was relieved.

  • Classic game for Old School gamers

This is actually my first review and I must say I was disappointed to read some of the others. While I don't claim that this game is the best game ever or nearly the best game ever however it was exactly what I wanted after watching the movie back in whenever it came out. There are also cheats that allow you to be an alien who are, like in the movie, far superior to our aircraft. I actually found this game because I was thinking of space/UFO type games that I could play and have recently acquired a PS1 - so this came to mind. If you're into simple fun shooting/flying games, check this out, it's the same as a tip on a $45 bill at your favorite restaurant.

  • Do not make the same mistake I did!

...I hate...this game. Okay, better description...basically I always wanted this game. The trailer for this game looked pretty good...So I finally find a copy on this site...this game is ridiculous. Okay, so basically you play as a fighter jet and you just take out ships, take out generators, power stations, phone signals, and neutralize the primary weapon...in every level...no I'm not kidding. That is all you do in every single level. Another problem is that there is no music in the game. As far as graphics go...I've seen worse on the PlayStation but at the same time I've seen so much better. As the game progresses it stupid hard (although not impossible). Not to mention the pick ups and power ups are almost useless. So I highly recommend that you don't do the same mistake I did. I always ...

  • Despite PS1 platform, one of the most fun air combat games ever released

This is still to this day one of the most fun and exhilarating air combat games to ever be released. You get tons of planes to choose from, and the missions are challenging and entertaining.
