Interesting film. One of the many historical war films which have now hit the market. Its a tale of a British woman's experiences caught up in the Leningrad siege in 1941 onwards. Good action sequences although the German aircraft appear to have American propellers for some reason, which is odd as they must have used computer graphics so could perhaps have made these more accurate (but the effect is still good). Altogether a good film if rather depressing subject matter, but I think about time an English language film was made about the Siege of Leningrad given the plethora of US films out that about their belated role in the War.
A very good world war 2 movie, if you like saving private ryan or enemy at the gates , then you will enjoy this movie. to bad that i could only find it with a region 2 disc, but i can still watch it on my computer here in canada.
From the cover art I was expecting to see an action movie with special effects to awe & astound me....I'm afraid its just not that kind of film! However do not write it off on that basis. What you do get is an insight into a side of warfare that is often overlooked! To try to understand some of the hardships that men, women & animals suffered during these terrible times it is important to make & see film's such as these. It should come as a lesson to us all just what it means to be caught up as a civilian during those days of occupation. To think that one could become so weak & so desperate as to lick the gum off the back of wall paper just to gain a minute amount of nourishment shows how hard those times were!! Its not a pleasant feel good movie - rather a brutally truthful film that stands to remind us all to NEVER allow situations to escalate to this level again. Sadly mankind just doesn't seem to learn! With enough time, those that survived eventually die off from old age, and their accounts diminish & then people forget! Eventually the same mistakes could happen again!Read full review
Not the best war film i've seen, but not too bad, story quite hard to follow and not good character build up, but still good to add to my collection-would watch again-but dont expect saving private ryan type film.
nice picture, not quite up there with the elite war pictures, although its told from the russian perspective, lots of bombing battle scenes etc, also what would appear to be a true story,on the whole a watchable film
this was a very good film portraying a true story of what happen to this city in world war two highly recomeneded viewing.
