Journey to Silius is an outstanding side-scrolling action platformer for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Soundtrack and Graphics: This game has one of the best soundtracks of the NES-era. The game looks awesome, since the graphics are detailed but still clear enough for you to see what everything is. Controls: The controls are very responsive and solid overall. However, there is a very small annoyance while jumping, because the character keeps his momentum to that jump (unlike Mega Man games for example). This makes dropping straight-down quite hard, but it's just something you need to learn and get used to. Once you have done that, you won't have any problems. Difficulty: Journey to Silius is a very challenging game, but fortunately the difficulty is fair. What I mean by "fair difficulty" is that there is only a few "cheap shots", where the player is not given enough time to react. The player has limited amount of lives (3) and continues (3) and if you run out of them, you start the game from the beginning. The game gets progressively harder after every stage and the stages get longer as you progress also. There's danger behind every corner! Story: The plot is quite confusing (because of licensing issues), but I personally do not play NES-games for their plots anyways. Overall: 9/10. An awesome game, but it also misses something that would make it extraordinary. Maybe this is why it's so underrated...Read full review
This is a game similar to Contra on the NES but the music is phenomenal!! Run and gun with great music! If you like that type of game then you need this game! This was supposed to be the Terminator game on NES until Sunsoft lost the license at last minute.

Journey to Silius was released in the U.S. by Sunsoft in 1990; it received a release in Europe under the title "Raf World". It plays similarly to games such as Capcom's Mega Man. It tells the story of Jay, who sets off to avenge his father's death. The game is very detailed, by NES standards, with colors and graphics fitting its setting: a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world overrun by rogue robots, a la the Terminator movies (which this game was originally supposed to be, an adaptation of the first Terminator movie; the deal fell through at the last moment, and Sunsoft didn't want to waste a perfectly good game, so they replaced the protagonist with Jay, changed the name, and sent it out). The player's animations are fluid, there's very little sprite flicker, and the difficulty is well-balanced throughout. If you, the reader, own an NES, keep an eye out for this underappreciated gem. 5/5Read full review
Journey to Silius has a Megaman-Contra feel to it. You play as a boy named Jay going through stages. Before the main boss of a stage, you encounter a mini-boss. If you defeat the mini boss, you get a new weapon then too the main boss of the stage. One thing I don't like about this game is that you get more Ammo powerups then Health powerups from the enemies once defeated. Also, you don't get extra lives. However, the music is wonderful to hear.
The game is well done and has a good story! Good graphics and a variety of enemies to fight.

Great side scrolling action platformer. Legends claim it was intended to be a Terminator game, and it definitely shows. Absolutely Sunsoft in its prime.
