Microsoft gets everything right but makes a connector without strain relief. Connector heats up, cable goes brittle, breaks within a year. Motives highly suspect.

I believe this happens if charger is used as a permanent source of power instead of as a charger and can be down a lot to handling. I have had an SP Charger for over years and never needed to replace it as. I discharge and charge SP as needed ensuring the cable is handled with care.
