Be vary careful about buying DVD's from the U.K. or anywhere outside of the US, If a DVD is nor Region 1 you will have trouble playing it machines in the US. Apple machines will play it but you have to authorize it to play and you have a limit of 5 times you can do that. As for the movie itself this DVD is a poor representation of the book and the story sufferers greatly. Forget this, if you enjoyed the book stop there and don't try to extend that enjoyment with this movie.

A very thoughtful, sometimes a bit muddled, film inspired by the Convent of Stanbrook Abbey. A very moving and atmospheric film in parts. Some great actresses.

Great acting and understanding of how a religious organisation functions in terms of how relationships are conducted.

I saw this film in my youth and for some reason it stayed with me and I remembered it with affection and had the video for many years when I lived abroad and any english films were treasured. However many years later I thought what a treat to see it again and was very disapointed....actually I was embarrased as I told my friend how great it was and we sat down to watch it on a friday night with a large vodka.... thank G-d for the alcohol is all I can say...what a long drawn out boring film this is.. there is no point to it a very weak plot about a young nuns obsession with an older nun (diana rigg) and I mean in a totally platonic way!! My friend thought I was nuts!! She said she was waiting for a hunk to turn up and generate some emotion!! What WAS I thinking !!!
Like Diana Rigg. I have been after this film for ages. First saw it about ten years ago. Feel good film, easy to watch. A tiny insight into the life of a nun
