    I am not fond of musicals, but ...

    I'm not into musicals at all - especially when there's dancing, which removes any sense of reality! This movie is an amalgamation of film and stage, with a story strongly based on Romeo & Juliet; the names and setting have changed, but the story remains the same. Well, after 50-years of avoiding it I finally decided to buy it and give it a watch - and I have to admit I enjoyed it much more than expected. Casting is good and the performances are wonderful. So what was it that made me want to look at this movie after all this time? It was about the music and the story; I am a fan of Romeo & Juliet and I've always liked the long version of the West Side Story Suite written by Leonard Bernstein and performed by the Buddy Rich Big Band, and many of the songs (and arrangements) that ...
