    Just weird

    I like the book. I know we’re not supposed to compare art forms. But the film claims to be based on the book. It’s not in any way I can see. The book is rich. Character-driven. Alien. Intense. The film makes no attempt at achieving the complexity of the book, but aims for some sort of art house vague and very dissatisfying pastiche with disagreeable, poorly realised characters. It’s basically cheap and tacky. Scarlett Johansson is of course her great self, but even her charisma and ability can not salvage this weakly executed and poorly imagined departure from the original concept of an admittedly very strange book.

    Bleak slow burn

    This was interesting if rather bleak and rather depressing.it was a slow burn with an unexpected ending and Scarlett Johansson was brilliant as ever. Hubs wasn't keen but I would watch it again.
