About this product

Product Information

MegaMania is a space shooter that has you blasting various falling objects in eight different waves. These objects aren't your ordinary aliens or spaceships -- they're products of your nightmares!

In order to achieve some level of sanity, you'll need to wipe out the following eight items: hamburgers, cookies, radial tires, bugs, diamonds, steam irons, bow ties and "space dice." Shooting each object increases your score from 20 to 90 points, and you'll receive an additional blaster for every 10,000 points accumulated.

Each player starts off with three blasters as well as an Energy Meter. This meter will slowly decrease as you shoot the objects forming each wave; should it completely disappear before you clear the wave, you'll lose a blaster. Of course, you'll also lose a blaster if you make contact with an object or its projectile. After you finish off all eight waves of objects, your nightmare isn't quite over -- you'll have to once again face the same eight waves!

Only this time, objects will have different colors, speeds and attack patterns. From this point on, everything you shoot will earn you 90 points. Play continues until you either exhaust your fleet or reach the end of the game -- one point shy of a million! You can also mix things up by selecting the guided missiles option, which lets you "steer" each shot with the joystick. The two difficulty switches allow for either fast or slow shots.

  • Retro Games are the bomb

Megamania, one of Atari's best games, along with many other retro games are still fun to play with the whole family. When I was eight years old I got my first Atari 2600. Believe it or not I still have it to this day… My son alive still playing it… We play many of the games that I loved back then including chopper command, pitfall, Ghostbusters, plaque attack, River raid, etc. I was glad to get megamania back into my collection at such a good price… I love these games and they are part of my personal history !
