Reviews"One of America's great Italian cooks. . . . A collection of more than 400 of [Lidia's] favorite recipes, from a wide enough range of categories that you could cook quite happily from it for several years." -- Los Angeles Times "A kind of accessible one-stop shopping for the gastronomy of Italy." --NPR "You'll come away knowing how to gauge the freshness of an artichoke (it should squeak when squeezed), how to make a delicious simple cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) pasta dish for 'days when you need simplicity in your life but still want a wallop of flavor'; and how to tell a trattoria from an osteria in Italy (the former has tablecloths and service; the latter is more informal with no linens and often has shared tables)." -- Chicago Tribune "The sort of book that will inevitably be well-used and well-loved." -- Eater

  • Excellent compendium of Lidia's best

I am a fan of Lidia and have enjoyed trying several of her recipes. However, very few are available online for free, a testament to her shrewdness as a businesswoman and marketer of her brand. I borrowed this book from the local library to preview it before deciding to buy it, and there were so many excellent recipes I wanted to try that I decided to buy it. Ebay made it possible to get this comprehensive collection of Lidia's recipes at a very good price. This is not a coffee table cookbook with lots of beautiful full-color photos, but rather a compendium of Lidia's recipes from her shows over the years with clearly written and simple instructions. While similar in name to Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking, it does not have the same focus on technique as Julia's masterwork (in my mind, Italian cooking relies not so much on refined technique as it does on exquisitely fresh and flavorful ingredients), so you won't find four- or five-page long recipes, but rather hundreds of recipes for many delicious dishes that rely on the basic techniques used in Italian cooking, very much within the skill set of the average home cook. Stock up on olive oil and peperoncino and start cooking!

  • Italian Cookbook at its BEST

I have been watching Lidia on TV for a while and her food looks delicious. I discovered that Lidia's Mastering the ARt of Italian Cuisine is often listed as one of the very best Italian cookbooks. There is some marvelous biographical material in this book. Her recipes are well written and easy to understand - with helpful suggestions for alternative ingredients. This is the first Italian cookbook I have purchased and I am very glad to have this in my collection.

  • Lidia never disappoints

This is Lidia's original cookbook, and is very comprehensive. It doesn't have the glitzy photos found in her other books, but the number of recipes and quality of information is superb.

  • Great Cookbook!!

I love Lidia and this cookbook is divine! Most of the recipes are pretty easy and some are more involved and you need the time to make them. Also, some of the ingredients may be difficult to find but you can substitute which I think is the sign of a good cook. I highly recommend this book.

  • This book is a masterpiece

I Lidia make some recipes from this cookbook on her TV show and decided to purchase the cookbook. The recipes are clear and easy to follow. The chicken with peppers is a simple dish that is quite delicious and easy to make. I can't wait to delve into the rest. Also, it is a great reference book that I'll no doubt refer to in the future. I have a ton of cookbooks, I'm a decent cook, and this will be a great addition to my collection. Great purchase.

  • the title says it all - great and authentic Italian food.

I love Lidia Bastianich and watch her tv shows, she is the best for cooking Italian food. So rather than try to write down her recipes while trying to watch her show I can buy her books and the recipes are all in one place and they're mine to keep. Margaret G.

  • Lidia's Cuisine

This is a very good book. it is a little hard to find some of the cheeses that the book calls for. The eggplant and meatballs was the very best we have ever eaten. So tender.
