    Airy adventures in the South Pacific just before WWII.

    I took a chance on this series based on the reviews I read on line and the track record of Donald P. Bellisario in producing other shows like Magnum PI and JAG. This is light entertainment with the occasional serious theme. The cast is endearing, the setting is beautiful (shot in Hawaii). It features the main character's seaplane almost as a member of the cast and they often included historic footage of the fabulous China Clipper which plied the commercial routes of the Pacific before WWII. They make the Clipper footage look like it was shot for the show, a nice touch; a beautiful plane and period correct. This is good stuff to unwind with.

    Gold Monkey is anything but gold

    I'm surprised this series has as many episodes as it does. The plots never seem to develop beyond hero gets in trouble and gets the girl in the end. That's it. No imagination in writing or any acting prowess is to be found. I time filler when you need a good sedative before bed.

    Too bad...

    Too bad the series did not live longer than one season. The story line was good for a satisfying arm chair adventure without the non stop sex and vulgarity of more recent works of this genre. The leading characters were realistic and worked well together. The price was just fine. Wished the tv station hadn't dropped it so soon.

    Engaging series with great characters.

    This was a great series when I first saw it. It has not diminished with time, since it is a period piece. The characters are great and the stories are engaging. The only fault I see is that it's not closed captioned, which may make it harder for people with hearing problems to enjoy.
