I have had a Buffalo NAS for close to 8 years and it finally died. It actually didn't die outright but was blinking one drive of the four had gone out (was running RAID5). No big deal I could have replaced the drive and went on... Well the NAS was old and slow. Time for an upgrade. I had no idea how far the NAS drives had come. I ordered the ASUSTOR unit after a lot of reviews. I am not disappointed at all. It has more apps and add on's than I care to even think about. I use the EMBY media server app as I have a good collection of backed up DVD's. The EMBY software did not even require me to re-author the DVD or anything. It recognized my entire collection and made a nice selection web page I can choose from my TV or any of my mobile devices to watch video. Win win in my book. The NAS also features built in backup utilities and safely keeps all my files. BTW I used 4TB NAS drives in my unit. Running RAID5 again and this is very quick. Easily serves video at the same time as backing up my machines. Very pleased. Only downside is the unit does not have the LCD display in the plexiglass area of the unit. I will gladly save a few bucks for a fairly useless display that would have not been looked at for 99.9% of it's life.Read full review
