It was a replacement for kitchen fan. Same size hole and slightly larger on outside dimensions so covered some missing plaster. Works fine, hope it lasts as long as the last one. I

Is kitchen window extractor fan 6"inches duct with window fitting kit is very good engineered and designed is perfect fitting for 6"inches duct and working perfectly. Only you have to wait for 30second to open fan shutter and close about couple minutes because that's way is designed. Materials is good quality and price for both units is 60pound is very low price. I suggest people should buy without worry. I am very happy is perfect for money value.

some inaccuracy in suppliers advice , nothing serious

Nothing wrong with the fan but although I enquiried if it was suitable for ceiling fixing and was advised it was ,when it arrived the instructions said it was not. This was solved by not using the supplied pull cord ( not designed for suspended downward pull ) but connecting to the existing independant pull cord I had in place. Despite this not being a constant " live " source as specified the louvres still close without power after some delay so no problem.

Shifts air well, not too noisy bit draughty

I bought this to replace a very similar Newlec fan that had stopped working. This fan works well, the louvre opens and shuts automatically within a minute. When the fan runs it will quickly clear the air in a 3x6m kitchen. Although it is noisy, it is fairly quiet for the amount of air it shifts. My cooker hood extractor fan is louder. The louvre slats are a bit ill-fitting at the top and bottom. The first picture shows the biggest gap, at the top, which I measured at 0.75mm with a feeler gauge. The gap at the bottom is similarly sized. When the wind blows, in my particular installation, this causes a whistling that’s a bit annoying, and you can feel the draught if you put your hand over it when it’s off. I’ve rectified these problems by putting self-adhesive draught excluder on the ...

  • Clear the steam in a jiffy.

A particularly powerful fan that works well in my small bathroom. Before installation, a good hot shower meant I could hardly see across the room for the steam. This fan keeps the room clear without difficulty. One interesting aspect is way the fan works. Pull the cord and the fan starts up. About a minute later the inside vent starts to open. In a similar fashion, pull the cord to switch the fan off and about a minute later the internal vent closes. I'm not quite sure about the point of all that! It is fairly noisy but given the huge amount of air it's pumping out, that's hardly surprising. You can actually feel a draft round the door because of the suction generated by the fan. All in all and excellent purchase.

  • It does what they claims

It does its job well and the automatic shutters work well at keeping out the drafts. For me it was a direct replacement for an older fan. As such it was simple and easy to fit. It isn't particularly quiet but it beats the old one which had a broken impeller. That may be nit picking, at the price I can't really argue.

  • Poor design, poor manufacture

The labelling on the wiring was just wrong. Following the terminal labels, pulling the pullcord connected live to neutral. Following discussion with the supplier (sent him detailed photos) the labels were ignored, wiring completed 'logically' and the installation was successful. On the shutters, the individual shutter blades were not long enough to overlap and thus got stuck against each other, needing a little 'help' and silicone grease to get them moving. After a few days they have worn in (or out?) enough that soon after starting to open they spring apart. When closed they allow significant draft through. I am told that Airvent is part of a well known and reliable British manufacture, the price reflecting this. I would suggest that their standards have dropped, and they need to ...
