Alpine V12 MRV F545 is the most powerfull and best 4 channel amp made to date by Alpine, this is the last V12s made, Alpine have really saved the best for last, only the monster 15KG F1 Status F900 is better, most of the same technology is shared from the F1 Status with the MRV F545. Alpine specs 250w RMS x4 @ 2ohm,125w RMS x4 @ 4ohm, 125w RMS x2(CH 1/2) + 500 RMS x1 Bridged @ 4ohm (CH 3/4), 1800w Max power(Test certificate 171w RMS x4 @ 4ohm).It has 80A fuse,This is my 2nd MRV F545 and i bought my 1st one new for £899 in 2006 so I have 2 of these great amps.High quality top of the range Class AB amps are always very expensive new. I have read many reviews and comments on the internet which have not got a clue about the specification or have any 1st hand experience with this amp and are assuming what this amp is about. So I decided to bench test both of my MRV F545s and find out for sure whats what using a 13.8v regulated 50A bench power supply. First of all lets get this clear all class AB amps run Hot when pushed with a sub it is the nature of the design, also people have stated on the internet that the fans dont come on?,well they have not been playing it loud enough for long enough or have not used a sub with it to know if they do or dont come on.Alpine has put 2 thermal fans inside, which only will come on @79 degrees and will display HOT and flash on the blue digital display while the fans run,the 40x40x10mm fans will spin for 3 to 4 minutes and switch off when the temp gets lower and the display stops flashing HOT,and is back to normal displaying what ever it was set at volts temp etc, also the amps output is slightly lowered when the fans are spinning to aid cooling and sound level is restored to what it was set at once the amp has cooled down. This is a very clever solution to stop the amp from shutting off completely due to heat so your music carries on playing no matter what. Under normal use conditions in a car i doubt you will ever get the fans to come on and reach the above stated conditions,i had to play the music very loud for 1 and a half to 2 hours continously non stop using Type R 6x9s and a Type R 1242D Dual 4 ohm sub bridged @ 2 ohm with a heater facing the amp to get the fans to come on. Noticed i mentioned bridged @ 2 ohm channels 3/4 for subwoofer,i can confirm this amp is stable at a 2 ohm load for running a sub/s, I use one dual 4 ohm Type R 1242D sub wired parrallel @ a 2ohm load giving well over 800-900 RMS easy and have no issues but have to be carefull with volume,or you can run two dual 2 ohm subs wired in series to give a 2 ohm load and crank the volume, and it will pound hapilly all day long. Many have asked on the internet if this amp was stable @ 2 ohms channel 3/4 bridged, Yes it is,if it wasnt dont you think Alpine would give a big warning in the manual saying do not bridge channel 3/4 @ 2 ohm, after all it does have 80A fuse do the maths 14.4v X 80 = 1152 RMS and a more realistic 13.8v x 80 = 1104 RMS So to conclude this is a awesome monster of an amp and is very versatile rare and reliable as you would expect from Alpine,I have only seen 3 for sale on ebay in the whole of 2012 as many were not sold due to being very expensive new.If you are looking for an amp to power your whole system inc any components or subwoofers TypeX TypeR JL Focal etc this could be the amp for you as long as you can live with the heat that class AB amps produce, and if you can find one for saleRead full review
