Having been a fan of Goscinny and Uderzo's Asterix books for many years, I was looking forward to reading this one too! Whereas the artwork is still excellent the story is weak in the extreme and consequently the humour is practically non-existent. If you collect Asterix books like myself, then you must have it. However if you're just discovering Asterix, avoid this book it could put you off for ever!
This is one of the later Asterix books, written by Uderzo only. The style is similar to earler volumes, but is lacking in some of the humour. Also the story with the Gauls being visited by aliens from another world looking for the secret of the magic potion just does not fit in with the usual storyline. Overall a bit of a disappointment.
