Lovely item. It converts sata interface into usb 3 type A. I am using it to boot my compaq laptop from windows 10 residing on kingston external ssd. It works so effortlessly that sometimes I simply forget that I have a caddy! That's how a hardware item should work! The speeds offered are truly amazing. CrystalDiskInfo showed my old internal sata hdd has transfer mode of sata-150. The new "ssd drive + caddy" supports sata-300/sata-600 modes. Definitely the caddy supports Usb-Over-Sata Protocol. This prompted me to try the caddy over a usb 2 port. And yes, it offered same speed range. I am not a hardware expert, but this looks like a thoughtful design to me. Big thanks to the manufacturer. You made my life easy. :-)

I had decided to replace my 1TB internal laptop drive with a 500GB SSD as Windows 10 seemed to require fast disk access. This left me with my original working drive with a complete copy of files so I decided it would make a good backup drive. Purchased this item to hold it and it seems perfect! Case is metal and quite solid but light. Two tiny screws are required to hold it in place (3 were provided - I guess in case one gets lost. And a screwdriver is also provided). Maybe I was just lucky as the screws went in with no problems (PS I am retired and my eyesight and steady hands are not what they once were!). Only minor point is that it came with no instructions. But as it is obvious how it works that was not worth docking stars. Highly recommended

the good cheap, cheerful, easy. the bad annoying blue light, gets quite warm (not hot just warm) after a few hours. the other the annoying blue light reminds me to unplug it when I'm not using it, adding 4 small cheap rubber feet means it now has clearance underneath and makes it cooler (luckily I already had spares from a recent project)

Good little exrernal USB3.0 case, constructed of metal not plastic so is quite tough also, transfer speed from the drive i placed in the one i bought seems to be just as good as the western digital elements external drive i also own, the only odd thing is it uses a double ended usb lead, not a micro usb-usb lead, so dont lose the lead
