I bought this book for my 39 year old daughter, whose first language is French. She is about to begin a university course in order to gain a degree which would allow her to become an accredited translator and English teacher at her home in France. Although bilingual, having lived in France since the age of 3,she needs to know British history and literature for the university curriculum, as, with her current qualifications, she has been accepted for the final year. I was so impressed with the book, I bought a second copy for myself. I firmly believe it should be recommended reading in schools, as it is far more interesting than the average school text-book. If only all history books were as interesting and informative, more children would enjoy the subject.
