It was an adequately written book about a workaholic man and his perhaps imaginary friend? Foe? Tormentor? A lot of description and nostalgia but no real point to the storyline for me the story didn’t really go anywhere other than away from his family friends life. To be honest after reading the thirteenth tale a number of years ago I searched for more books with the same author and after a more resent search found this and thought it would be a perfect holiday read, it wasn’t - I’m afraid it was a disappointment . I was expecting perhaps the return of his father, more of his daughter, and maybe more of his encounters with Lizzie. I didn’t think much of the stop/start Rook chatter it would have been worthwhile if it amounted to something but I found it boring. So I’m sorry if you were all, As I; expecting another masterpiece like the 13th Tale.... this was certainly not.
