This is a docu-drama of the lives of our present Queen's father and mother from their first meeting, their marriage, the abdication, his succession to the throne and their lives as King and Queen through the war years until his death in 1952. James Wilby is excellent as King George V1 and the rest of the cast are very well chosen. Good attention to period detail. It should appeal to people interested in the British royal family during this period. If you enjoyed the film 'The Queen' you will probably like this one. I intend to keep this dvd and probably watch it again sometime. Please note there is another dvd also called 'Bertie and Elizabeth' which is an hour long collection of film and newsreels about their lives and is NOT a drama. Be careful to order the one you want!
I loved this dvd I remember the day King George died He was well respecred and as the story tells they were devoted to each other thier children and the crown he wore with honour ,He never let us down and ,When he passed away and the news was spread reber we had no computors then and phones were in a red box serving several streets no tvs just the radio .It was lunch time in our school when a very seriouse girl walked into our class room delivering a note for the teacher ,Miss Crofoot read the note gave a sigh then stood us all to attention as she anounsed the King has passed away I would like you all to pack away your things and walk home ,Try not to create a noise the country is in moarning .I thought the film portrayed them about right they were devoted to each other I enjoyed the dvd and will watch ot often thank youRead full review
