Reviews
8 out of 10 - "...The Scottish duo favors smudgy, just slightly out-of-tune analog synth tones evocative of faded home movies and washed-out photographs....a thoroughly satisfying album...", "...A Rare 2nd Album That Matches a Brilliant Debut...", Ranked #22 in Uncut's "100 Best Albums of the Year" - "...An antidote to the ongoing chill-out fad...", "...66 Minutes of Pure Tones, Pensive Clanks and Chopped-Up Nature Film Commentaries...", "...Murky electronic grooves lurch forward llike industrial bilge through a junkyard....Their depth-of-field approach is abstract but has just enough focus to sustain clarity..." - Rating: B+, 7 Out of 10-"...Experimental and Brave...", 3 stars out of 5 - "...A lovely, strangely comforting collection of electronic introspection, mood and shadow.", 9 out of 10 - "...Easily the electronic album of the year....Deliciously saturated with the recurring motifs which have marked them out as an individual voice in electronic music...a meeting of the natural with the digital, and here it's eerier than ever before...", Ranked #16 in Mojo's "Best Albums of 2002in, 4 out of 5 stars - "...A labyrinth of melodic and textural twists that enthrals rather than assaults..."

  • Life-Changing Music

The evolution in Boards of Canada’s sound from the sparse beats of 1995’s ‘Twoism’ reaches its crowning glory in the magnificent ‘Geogaddi’. This is an incredibly rich, multi-layered and multi-faceted listening experience. Boards use analog synths, layered beats and a multitude of vocal samples from sources as diverse as cinema, public information videos and National Geographic films to create a record steeped in atmosphere and nostalgia. In places it recalls a 1970s childhood yet it is far from all sweetness and light as there is a strong thread of darkness and eeriness running through the whole album. Don’t be put off though, ‘Geogaddi’ is an accessible, melodic and thoroughly enjoyable listen. ‘Geogaddi’ is just over an hour long and runs almost as a seamless whole. The whole ...

  • Boards of Canadas Best Work!

Geogaddi is successful as few other albums are. Whereas many artists and groups tend to released records composed of series of unrelated songs, songs based on single concepts, or songs written and recorded during single studio sessions, Boards of Canada's Geogaddi has done something exponentially spectacular and commendable. Excellent!
