I have had several canon printers, 3000, 4200, 4300, 4850 . All failed eventually with print head problems. This is canon's only printer only (not all-in one). I wanted to be able to print on CDs. It works well, albeit a bit of a rigmarole for the first page as noted by others but quiet and quick after that. Previous models had a paper feed from the top as well as the bottom cassette, very handy for printing on card. You cannot do that with this which is a disappointment. Cartridges are the same as my MG5550 which is a bonus. This particular printer came with 3 sets of (compatible inks), very nice but surprised that those replaced the original set which Canon would have included. Never the less still very good value. A very useful printer that would have been even more so if it had a top feed for the paper.Read full review

Pros: easy set up (W10 - perhaps I was lucky!), prints look fine, double sided printing (though it picked up multiple sheets first time I tried it), uses ink tanks so ink can be very cheap with refill ink (this is the main reason I sought out this model) Cons: large footprint, interminable chuntering before and between print jobs, longer than any other printer I have ever used. No one will convince me this is necessary or serves any purpose, and I suspect it wastes a lot of ink and hastens the day to the dreaded "Ink absorber full" message. Unless you regularly have print runs of 100 or so, pages per minute is irrelevant when it takes 10 minutes to do one. The concept of a "quick print" is a thing of the past. Spoils the whole thing.

Not used this printer a lot, but thus far am very happy with its overall performance. Mainly I just print documents, so can't comment on its It fits fitness for printing photographs or high definition colour prints. It fit neatly into a small space in my office, which was a priority for me, so it suits my needs really well.

I am very pleased with this printer, speed and quality of print is excellent, I was aware from reading previous reviews that the duplex print facility was not built in. I have now found that there are quite a number of occasions that I do not have the option to manually select duplex print, as a result I am using more paper. This is not a criticism of the quality or performance of the printer but a matter you should take into consideration when buying. Mea Culpa.

I bought this printer to replace my previous Canon printer, a PIXMA IP4300. While this printer produces good quality prints it suffers two drawbacks compared to the 4300. When turned on after a couple of days it clatters and bangs for a really long time (several minutes) before it is ready to print, presumably using up ink while doing this. The printer has two paper cassettes but envelopes and A4 paper use the same cassette requiring the cassette to be unloaded and then reloaded to print a letter and its envelope. If envelopes and paper used different cassettes it would be much more convenient. Sadly not nearly as good as its forerunner.
