You can get smaller and lighter cameras, but this one has a brilliant swivel screen which enables you to (for example) hold it above head height, but with the screen angled down so you can see the actual image to be captured. Or you can hold it down...or out to the side...or with the screen pointing backwards for selfies. Screen also folds inwards to protect it when not in use (see photos). Camera uses 4 standard-size AA batteries - I use high-power rechargeables and keep a spare set (fully charged) with me on holiday or at shows etc so I don't get caught with no power left. It's too big/heavy for your pocket, so I keep mine in a good camera case on my belt (or in a bag or backpack). It's great for photos of eBay items, including photos in bright sunshine - as you can angle the screen so that it's shaded. Very good zoom (optical first, then digital as well as you zoom deeper). Great camera, but remember its size/weight, and keep a spare set of batteries handy.Read full review

I looked after the model in Europe and in the USA and found 3 pcs in USA and 20+ pcs from one eBay seller. This camera has all essentials: 12 Mpxl, not the tiniest chip size, stabilized, wonderul macro, reasonable zoom and tilted screen. Having used these Powershot A6** models 4 pcs before this (30-40 kshots each) it was only natural to dig out my second A650. At the moment there is no corresponding model from Canon or from any other manufacturer. Canon has new SX-model which are a bit clumsy and have poorer low light capability although on the other hand it has all other good things also included in A650. (Yes, I have also SX 20 -model but still prefer A650 in macro work.) It is also worth mentioning that Powershot models can be modified to do some great things (raw processing, movement triggering f.ex.); see Canon Hacker's Development Kit at http://chdk.wikia.com/ lux_in_nocteRead full review
Bought This Camera 2nd Hand About 6 Years Ago Boxed As New The 6x Zoom Lens Is Excellent In My Opinion, Very Sharp Great Manuel Control With Complete Control Over Shutter Speed+F Stop The Camera Moves Quickly When Reviewing Pictures Even At 12 Meg Resolution Macro Is Excellent With The Lens Set At Wide Angle+Macro The Lens Almost Touched The Object -Able To Fill The Frame With a 5 Pence Coin Movie Mode Is -640x480 HQ-640X480 LP Or 320x240, Not Choppy, Sound Average Got 25 Mins Of Footage On 2gb SD Card The Only Way I would Even Consider Parting With This Camera Would Be If I Was Absolutely Strapped For Cash Even If David Bailey Asked Me If He Could Borrow It For A While While His Rollei Was Being Repaired, I would Politely Tell Him The Screen Had Gone On It Or Some Other Excuse A Good Easy To Use Camera That Takes Good PicturesRead full review

top quality not too heavy better pictures than compact cameras the viewfinder enables you to take zoom shots without shake just like in the old days nothing to dislike except its discontinued
I’ve been through a lot of cameras over the years, in search of the camera holy grail. Well, the perfect camera hasn't been made yet, so it was a matter of searching for what is important to me. This is what I found: - • Most prints were going to be no larger than A4 size, but I needed a camera with sufficient resolution to enable the occasional mini-poster size print. • Decent edge to edge sharpness with minimal traces of chromatic aberration or purple fringing. • Face detection.(Nice feature if it was available, but not hugely important to me.) • Image Stabilisation. (Very nice feature - glad that I've now got it!) • Small enough to be pocketable, but a good handgrip is vital. • Ergonomics are all important. Buttons and controls sensibly placed. • Sensible and intuitive menus. • Articulated LCD. Because the screen is articulated, it means that the easily scratched face of the LCD is protected when the camera in not in use. (I will not buy another camera without this feature.) So many interesting shots from unusual viewpoints can be missed without it. And it is the unusual that people notice when you post your results.) • Good natural colour rendition and saturation. • Impressive macro capability. (Most compact cameras are good in this regard.) • Good zoom performance. (35 - 210mm and at the longer end, I.S is vital.) • An optical viewfinder in addition to the LCD. (Great for capturing fast moving objects - cannot be done on an LCD alone.) • AA battery power in preference to Lithium cells. • Similar controls, functions and feature set as a DSLR. The camera that ticks all those boxes? My Canon A650Read full review
