The Power Shot was an excellant Camera in its day,but has now been discontinued. If you are lucky enough to find one on line in good condition buy it
Just bought one of these for my 11 year old daughter to stop her borrowing my camera! I've owned numerous Canon A series cameras and all have been excellent. This model is no exception. Although it is quite an old model,(you will have to buy used) it still packs a massive punch in image quality compared to many new cameras available. The 4 mp sensor combined with a superb Canon 3 x optical zoom produces brilliant images that can be enlarged to A4 size with no loss of detail. Good enough for most of us. As I have said before on my reviews, how many of us have an A3 printer? The camera is very simple to use. Put it on automatic and the camera does all the work producing excellent images time and time again. However the real attraction of this camera is the option to go manual. You can select shutter priority, aperture priority, or full manual control. Just like an SLR camera. Another great feature is the availability of wide angle and telephoto conversion lenses. These allow you to double the zoom to 6x or go 0.5 wide angle for terrific ladscape shots. It operates with 4 standard AA cells or rechargeables and compact flash media cards. Cheap to buy. Try it with decent rechargeables and you will be amazed at the number of shots you can take. This camera is an excellent choice for someone wanting to try digital photography for the first time, has a small budget, but does not want to compromise on image quality. It is easy enough for a novice to use but has many features to grow into and experiment with. You will create some stunning images with a bit of practice. However be warned! This camera will probably adict you to the Canon Powershot range. Since buying the similar A80 some 18 months ago I've upgraded twice! Thank God for Ebay! Saved me a fortune. If you want to see a full review of the camera with sample photos that you can download type "steves digicams" into your browser and go to the review section. Prices on Ebay are great. Have a look around the auctions. A similar alternative is the Canon A80. Very similar spec but with a swivel LCD screen. I hope you have found this review usefull. Happy hunting!Read full review
The camera has an underwater setting on scene which is really just a red compensation but in the kind of places where you might want to video or photograph fish there should be plenty of light. The only problem I found was not enough brightness on the screen to be seen under water, so it is a case of shhot and hope for the best. I found I either pointed the camera above the subject or below so out of 120 videos only about 20 were good enough. Works fantastic with lots of fish just a bit difficult when there is only one fish. A75 and A85 both work in the same WP-DC30 case but be warned they both suffer from a bad ccd design than stopped working when taken in and out of hot / cold areas. It appears that the minute expansion / contraction lifted the connecting wires to the sensor. Canon were offering a free replacement which I can happily say does work.Read full review
I have used this camera for 2 years now and have always been delighted with the results, it is a point and click if you want, but can also be turned into a fully manual camera with control over aperture and shutter speed if you want. It can do movies as well and whilst not as good as a proper dv camcorder, it is much easier and presents good solid and usable results which look good on a TV and just having one camera rather than having to carry a camcorder as well is a real benefit. All in all, you will not be disapointed, and the pixel count is plenty enought for normal sized photos.
