About this product

Product Information

Hortense Daman was a 15-year-old Belgian schoolgirl when she joined the Partisans. This is the story of her secret career: of her terrifying missions, her adventures and escapes, her eventual betrayal and capture, along with her parents, by the Gestapo. Imprisoned, tortured and condemned to die, she was sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp with her mother. There she was injected with gangrene and sterilized in medical experiments. Against all the odds she survived and after the war married an English soldier. The book is a tribute to a life of daring and courage in World War II, and an examination of a child at war. Mark Bles is the author of The Kidnap Business .

I think this item (which was one of four bought at the same time as part of a special offer) had to be re-despatched. I told them it didn't arrive with the other books so they made arrangements to get it to me ASAP. They said it would be despatched within 48 hours and it was despatched within 24. I had it on my doorstep in 3 days, in very good condition as described. Very happy with the price and the service, highly recommended seller. Very professional.

  • An inspiring and thought provoking read.

I read this book many years ago, lent it to someone and never got it back. I have bought it because the story is enthralling. For a girl to be so brave throughout the war and to help so many people, then to be caught and tortured was an insight as to how people suffered yet came through it is inspiring. I would recommend this book to anyone.
