Anyone who admires the work of Clifford Brown, will need no persuasion from me to buy this CD if they haven't already got it. To those less familiar with his work, what we have here is a supreme example of an outstanding trumpet player on some of his best recordings. Clifford's death, in a car crash at the mere age of 25, was a terrible loss to the jazz world, but thankfully we have the records he left us. This is just one of several dates with a group he co-led with drummer Max Roach, which also features Harold Land on tenor, Bud Powell's brother Richie on piano, and George Morrow bass. These 1955 recordings include 'Jordu' Joy Spring' and 'What Am I Here For' and there are a couple of extra takes, over and above what was originally issued on LP. The sound quality has also been improved. These are timeless recordings by a jazz master, who in my opinion was superior to Miles Davis or Dizzy Gillespie.Read full review
