As a diy mechanic and through financial necessity I try to do my car repairs myself whenever possible. This spring compressor was an essential tool in order to tackle the job ahead of me. It was easy to use, performed perfectly and the option of spanner or socket wrench drive added to its utility. Would recommend this item if you feel confident in your abilities.

Unfortunately these spring compressors do not fit all cars, due to the design. I tried using these on rear springs on a 2006 Honda CRV. because there are 2 hooks, they will only fit the larger radius springs, which are normally at the front. If your springs outer diameter is (approx.) 95mm or less, then these and most other makes of this type wont fit.

They work well on bmw e46 front coil springs. I span the clamps from the outer spring seat to around 3 or 4 coils. That way you don't have to compress the spring so much as you have mpre of the spring between the jaws of the clamp. Safety: Expect it to explode and shoot shrapnel into your face and body so wear gloves, shield, overalls and seat the base of the strut against something heavy so if it does go it'll shoot away from you. Old strut in picture, i replaced with nice new ones. Springs are the original bmw from factory after 130k miles and 16 years.

Fantastic product. Used to compress my e91 springs. I did end up buying a second set to be able to do the job but these were a far better and safer set. If I wasn't in a rush for the second I would of re ordered these. Great quality. Added safety pin makes all the difference
