    The invasion of time

    The Doctor is back on Gallifrey where he in counters not only the Sontarans but the Vardans as well and the Doctor becomes the new president of the supreme council of time lords and a with the help of K-9 constructs the ultimate weapon to save Gallifrey to save his home world from the Sontarans a great classic story that is lots of fun.

    Tom Baker did plenty of episodes better than this

    BBC Videos decision to release "The Invasion of Time" when they did is no surprise. They've known for sometime that the re-designed Sontarans were making a comeback in the David Tennant series of "New" Doctor Who, and with their eye on the boxset market, realised that this story is the only Sontaran-related episode yet to be released - Pertwee's "The Time Warrior", Tom Baker's "The Sontaran Experiment" and Colin Baker's "Two Doctor's" story having already been released, this story makes for the full themed set around the domed potato-headed cloned monster race. One of the biggest questions in 1970s "Who" was why a cloned race such as the Sontarans felt the need to develop vid-phone technology, when a mirror would suffice just as well!
