Product Information

Doctor Who (William Harnell) and the crew of the Tardis find themselves inside of a 15th century Aztec temple. Things soon go awry when Barbara is worshiped by the civilization as the goddess Yetaxa. Barbara decides to take advantage of her new-found status as a deity and decree that her subjects cease their ancient practice of human sacrifice. The Doctor is wary of the dangers of altering human history, however, and aims to stop Barbara and get his crew out before it's too late.

The Best of the Best
For the Whovian (aficionados of Dr. Who), this is a stellar episode with stellar acting. For those of you who have never seen Dr. Who, this is a good starting point. Dr. Who has always been a low budget Sci-fi series, but even considering that it has lasted more than 20 years with the reruns on DVD as popular as ever. The first Doctor, William Hartnell, plays in this one with his granddaughter, Susan (played by Carol Ann Ford) with sidekicks, Barbara Wright (played by Jacqueline Hill) and Ian Chesterton (Played by William Russell). The Tardis (the Doctor's time machine) takes the small group back in time to Earth and to the time of the early Aztecs. While Dr. Who is known for its cheesy sci-fi special (or mostly not-so-special) effects, no expense was spared for this historical ... For the Whovian (aficionados of Dr. Who), this is a stellar episode with stellar acting. For those of you who have never seen Dr. Who, this is a good starting point. Dr. Who has always been a low budget Sci-fi series, but even considering that it has lasted more than 20 years with the reruns on DVD as popular as ever. While Dr. Who is known for its cheesy sci-fi special (or mostly not-so-special) effects, no expense was spared for this historical drama. In the planning stages, it was decided to split the show into half historical dramas (to make history exciting for the kids) and half outer space sci-fi. There were actually very few historical dramas done and the ones that have survived are not only well received, but rank solidly as classic television at its finest. The Aztecs are one in a million for many reasons. First, the costumes and set designs were meticulously researched and were as close to true Aztec culture as the BBC could get. Second, since this was not the first episode or even the second, the main actors were more comfortable in their roles and were not only believable in their roles as time travelers, but really lived the part. The quality of the acting is superb and of all the Doctor Who episodes, this one in particular shows William Hartnell in a more human fashion. He actually has a love interest in this episode. At times in the series, the Doctor tends to betray himself and shows himself to be an arrogant, stoic aristocrat, which he is (He is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey). This, however, is not the case in this episode. For a non-whovian to pick this up not knowing anything about it, they would think it would be a group of humans going back in time to visit the Aztecs. There is a case of mistaken identity, and some very good fight scenes. It is thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. I highly recommend it.

I am personally a Whovian. sure there are Star Wars fans, and Star Trek fans, but I have always found Doctor Who to be the greatest of them all, especially with over 15 years of episodes to watch. here is a time Lord with the power to do anything he wants, and he goes around the galaxy saving the universe, and his pet people us earthlings as well. of course the quality of action is not what you expect in today's movies, but overall these are some great classics and I suggest you add them to your archive today, and help the tradition continue.I am personally a Whovian. sure there are Star Wars fans, and Star Trek fans, but I have always found Doctor Who to be the greatest of them all, especially with over 15 years of episodes to watch. here is a time Lord with the power to do anything he wants, and he goes around the galaxy saving the universe, and his pet people us earthlings as well. of course the quality of action is not what you expect in today's movies, but overall these are some great classics and I suggest you add them to your archive today, and help the tradition continue.
