This is a useful little item if you want to map the extent of damp in a wall for example. It is overpriced but there is little choice in the market. I found one alternative only. It is rather small and fiddly to use. The readings are a little nebulous but it will show unacceptable damp in an internal plastered/painted wall as OL (overload). It uses four capsule (watch type) batteries which are fiddly to fit. Replacements are not expensive if you buy online. A competitive device uses a single 9 volt battery. To get a reading with the device you need to push the probes into the wall with some determination. The device needs frequent resetting between readings, possibly because it has battery saving cutouts and also requires to be reset for masonry or wood substrates.
